Starboard (plural Starboards)- The right hand side of a ship, boat or aircraft when facing the front, or fore or bow. Starboard does not change based on the orientation of the person aboard the craft.
- (nautical) One of the two traditional watches aboard a ship standing a watch in two.

Etymology
Middle English sterbord, from Old English steorbord (“side on which a vessel was steered”), the right side of the boat, making it impractical to put the right side against a pier when in port, hence the left side of the boat became known as the port side. Steering capabilities with such a primitive oar and steering system, would be compromised if it was on the left, as the majority of able seamen were right-handed.
