Vortex (plural Vortexes or vortices)- A whirlwind, whirlpool, or similarly moving matter in the form of a spiral or column.
- (figuratively) Anything that involves constant violent or chaotic activity around some centre.
- (figuratively) Anything which inevitably draws surrounding things into its current.
- A revolving mass of water which forms a whirlpool, which is caused by water flowing out of a small opening in the bottom of a basin or reservoir. A funnel-shaped opening is created downward from the water surface.
